P N Junction Diode Notes
Forward biased p n junctionwhen we connect p type region of a junction with the positive terminal of a voltage source and n type region with the negative terminal of the voltage source then the junction is said to be forward biased.

Forward biased junction diode. The junction diode acts as short circuit in forward bias and acts as open circuit in reverse bias. This paved the way the diode to act as a switch. A dc voltage source connected by conductive material contacts and wire across a diode in the direction to produce forward bias.
A pn junction diode allows electric charges to flow in one direction but not in the opposite direction. The forward bias reduces the potential barrier of the diode and establishes the easy path for the flow of current. Forward biasing of p n junction diode this applied forward potential establishes an electric field which acts against the field due to the potential barrier.
Hence the resultant field is weakened and the barrier height at the junction is reduced as shown in the above figure. Under no voltage or unbiased condition the p n junction diode does not allow the electric current. Zero bias no external voltage potential is applied to the pn junction diode.
The biasing conditions of p n junctions diode clearly state that during forward bias the diode is in conducting mode acting like a closed circuit. There are two ways in which we can bias a pn junction diode. Reverse bias the voltage potential is connected negative.
The forward bias and the reverse bias properties of the pn junction imply that it can be used as a diode. In forward biased p n junction diode the positive terminal of the battery is connected to the p type semiconductor material and the negative terminal of the battery is connected to the n type semiconductor material. Forward bias is the condition that allows current through the pn junction.
This external bias voltage is designed as v bias. Forward bias the voltage. The direction of external voltage applied in reverse bias is opposite to that of external voltage applied in forward bias.
Negative charges electrons can easily flow through the junction from n to p but not from p to n and the reverse is true for holes. There are two operating regions and three possible biasing conditions for the standard junction diode and these are. Whereas during reverse bias the diode is in non conducting or acting as an open circuit.
1 forward bias and 2 reverse bias the basic difference between a forward bias and reverse bias is in the direction of applying external voltage. While in reverse bias the potential difference increases the strength of the barrier which prevents the charge carrier to move across the junction.
